Autumn Statement: What do agents need to know?
Since Britain decided to leave the European Union, we have all been waiting with baited breath to find-out what the Government has in store for the UK in its first Autumn Statement (and last) following the decision.
The wait is now over, so the team at Property Software Group, part of ZPG Property Services has dived into all of the news to discover what the 2016 Autumn Statement means for agents across the UK.
New homes and affordable homes
Chancellor Phillip Hammond has committed to delivering a £1.4bn budget to cover the cost in delivering to the UK 40,000 extra affordable homes, together with a £2.3bn housing infrastructure fund to provide 100,000 new homes in many of the UK’s high-demand areas.
Ban on letting agency fees
Perhaps one of the biggest news-story of the day for the property industry is that Hammond has confirmed that fees charged by letting agents in England will be banned “as soon as possible”.
With average fees costing private renters £337, Hammond estimates that Britain’s four million private renting households will benefit from the decision.
While the move will likely hit landlords, many experts are warning a ‘boomerang’ effect may take place, with some suggesting an increase in rental payments may take-place to recuperate the costs.
What does this mean for agents, and how can Property Software Group help?
While an increase in affordable homes, as well as a boost in homes across high demand areas will be welcomed by many, the news of a ban on letting agency fees may come as a shock, although, the overwhelming industry response throughout the day has been to battle-on through the industry changes, and with Property Software Group by your side, your agency will be racing ahead.
